We present you a 18th century icon from the Greek Catholic Church in Grabówka. This icon is the only part of the late iconostasis that we know about….
St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Grabówka is a Greek Catholic church that belongs to a parish in Lalin. It was built in 1864, probably in a place of an older, wooden church from 1789.
It’s a construction made of stones and plastered. This church is based on a rectangular plan. The part that operates as a presbytery is narrower and shaped semicircular. Next to the chuch there are ruins of a stone-built bell-gable.
The last renovation was in 1920.
After War World II the church was taken over by the Roman Catholic parish.
Since 1947 it is abandoned and falls to ruin.
We are starting the workings on our Orthodox Church in Grabówka. However, there is a very long road ahead of us.
We are a group of people committed to salvaging this monument. We operate with complete approval of the parish priest Józef Watras.
The idea of renovating the ruined, robbed and crumbling Orthodox Church emerged in 2018.
The first step was preparing documentation. From The Administration and The Council of A County in Brzozów (Zarząd i Rada Powiatu w Brzozowie) we received funds needed for this purpose. After conducting a technical condition control and gathering the results, in November 2019 a document was ready. It enabled us reaching for another funds. We were granted with a financial help from Voivodeship Heritage Conservator (Wojewódzki Konserwator Zabytków) for the roof renovation.
In February 2020 we have done the first workings. One of them was cutting branches above the church’s roof. This is just the beginning…
